I usually like what my mom sends me/us. She's made a couple quilts for my son, and she's the sort of person who actually asks what I'd like. She knits, and made me a giant shawl last Christmas. My suggestion? Ask your friends about it. That's what I always do. I know some of their general tastes, but still, if I'm going to make something for them, I want to know it's something that they will use/appreciate, instead of just "Wow, I'm glad you spent days on this, but I really hate it." (and the hot chocolate mix sound great!)

i thought about making my homemade granola this year and packaging it up all cute like. you can also jar up the dry ingredients for cookies and put a bow on them along with the final cooking steps.

Honestly, I LOVE baked goods (especially bread or cookies). I have also received some really nice beaded jewelry and sachets in the past. I once made a boyfreind a custom necklace with trinkets I "stole" from his apartment, and he said it was the best gift he'd ever received.
